I know that winter is almost over (hopefully) but we still deal with a sore throat from time to time. It doesn’t even have to be winter. That delicious ice cream we enjoy during summer and icy drinks can end up in the same way too.
I am dealing with this more often during winter. And it is for sure not pleasant to feel like you have a bunch of needles in your throat.
We all know the regular remedies like honey and lemon or things you can get from the pharmacy. But last time I dealt with this I looked into more natural remedies that I can try.
Now I will tell you about 5 of my favorite and most efficient ones.
Ginger tea
Why?
Ginger has various benefits and it is analgesic, antibacterial and anti-fungal. It can help to reduce the pain and it also works as an expectorant. It boosts circulation and increases the oxygen flow speeding up the healing process.
How?
All you need is fresh ginger, water and maybe some honey if you don’t really enjoy the taste of ginger. Honey has also antibacterial properties and it soothes the painful sore throat.
Peel the ginger and cut few slices. It depends on you how intense you want it to taste. I’ve put like 10 slices of ginger in 4-500 ml of water. Bring the water to boil and leave it to simmer for 10 minutes. Your ginger tea is ready and you can now add honey as well.
Garlic tea
But…Why?!
Yes, I know this doesn’t sound good, but apparently, garlic tea can be really helpful with a sore throat. It contains a compound called allicin, which helps kill bacteria. It also helps in boosting the immune system and combat colds.
How?
The same way you prepare the ginger tea, you can apply for garlic. Actually, I also combine them both, as the garlic taste will be covered by the ginger taste.
Parsley
Why?
Parsley is a rich source of anti-oxidant nutrients and it also contains vitamin C. These help to fight the free radicals and also improve the function of the health system.
How?
Parsley can be enjoyed fresh but it can also be served as a tea. Use 30g of parsley leaves per one liter of boiling water. Let it simmer and enjoy!
Turmeric tea
Why?
I talked about the benefits of turmeric tea in another post here but mainly it is a natural anti-inflammatory and a powerful antioxidant.
How?
You can find out the detailed steps on how to make a delicious Turmeric tea.
Hot water and apple cider vinegar
Why?
I know this is not actually a tea but it is still in the warm liquids section let’s say. I am aware that vinegar doesn’t have a pleasant taste for many people. Personally, I don’t mind the taste but I know that it has great benefits for our body. The acetic acid can help killing many types of bacteria
How?
This one is easy to prepare. You just need a cup of hot/warm water and a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. If you really can’t stand the taste you can add honey to it.
Other great ingredients that can help you reduce the discomfort of the sore throat are cinnamon, cayenne pepper. They can be added to the above teas or added as spices in the foods you eat.
It is better if you don’t need them, but just in you will, I hope the above remedies will help you heal faster in a natural way.
Thank you for reading and let me know if you ever tried these remedies or if you know other ones.
Be nice, share if you liked my post 🙂

Brilliant post. I love ginger and honey and lemon tea when I have a sore throat. I’ve completely lost my voice on occasion and I think it’s the ginger that has made my voice return within hours! Amazing stuff! #KCACOLS

I’m going to try ginger tea. I don’t have a sore throat but it’s so good for you, and I love its spicy tang. Didn’t realise it was so easy to make yourself! The only tea I really drink (other than english breakfast) is peppermint. I love the tingly sensation of it 🙂
