What Is Black Goji Berry Tea

What Is Black Goji Berry Tea www.gabriela.green

Black Goji Berry tea, also known as Wolf Berry tea, seems to be trending between tea lovers lately. First time I’ve seen a picture with this tea, I thought it must be edited or something because I’ve never seen blue tea before.

A while ago, Nicole from sinaeangift contacted me to ask if I would like to have a sample of Black Goji Berry tea. I was curious of course, so I said yes and later I received the berries directly from China.

Benefits of Black Goji Berries

These little dried berries are known to be packed with benefits.

Here are the main benefits of black goji berries are:
     1. Contains powerful antioxidants
     2. Enhances the immune system
     3. Fights free radicals
     4. Improves blood circulation

Compared to Goji Berries, these have a black color when dried and they look like this:

The dark blue pigment that makes the difference between them, contains flavonoids, including reservatrol, and anthocyanins. These flavonoids have been shown to keep blood pressure in control and boost immunity.

Preparation

You will need
– 1 gram of black goji berries for 100 ml of water.
– 100 ml water – the water temperature needs to be between 50-75℃.

If you use water with a higher temperature, it will destroy some of its nutrients and benefits. If the water is too cold, then it will not activate the nutrients and the taste.
Depending on the acidity of the water you use, the color may differ. The pigment contained, the anthocyanins, is sensitive to the acidity level so the color can change. I will show you that in some pictures below.

First I will show you how it looks like if you follow the above rules when preparing the tea.
I prepared the warm water and I’ve put 1 gram (10-15 pieces) in the glass of water.
The berries will float and you can observe how the pigment is being slowly released in the water.
After a while, the color becomes dark blue, almost purple.

If you want to change the color of the tea, you can add a bit of lemon juice. You will see how the color turns from dark blue, to pink like in the picture below.

This is because the lemon juice will change the alkalinity of the water

First time I tried them, right after I received the sample, I didn’t follow the rules, of course.

This is how the tea looks like if the water is too hot and too much, compared to the amount of berries used:

And here you can observe the comparison between them.

The one I made following the rules above has a much deeper blue color.

Taste

After I convinced myself that I was about to drink tea and not ink, I can say that it has a mild taste of berry. What I have seen is that the tea with hot water definitely had a stronger taste.

I don’t know how color blue tastes like, but I think this is totally how it would taste like!

The amount received, was enough to make about 10 teas. I guess this tea needs to be taken for longer periods to see the benefits. I will drink the rest of the tea and I will hope that my immune system will get strong enough to keep me away from colds this spring.

It was a fun and new experience to try this tea and to see how the water turns blue and pink.
Please check with your doctor before you start using this tea to make sure it doesn’t interact with any condition or treatments.

Love,
