The picture itself helps if you are planning to pick up the plants yourself and create your tea but most of the times we buy tea already prepared. The teas we buy will also have a picture of the plant most of the times on the box.

Taste:

For me, the taste of chamomile tea is really relaxing and the after taste I consider it is stronger than the taste itself. Considering only the taste, without knowing any of the benefits of this tea, I could easily say that is one of my favorites. I also have a tip on how to enhance this lovely taste, you can find it at the end of this post.

Benefits:

Well, this category contains so many things. It turns out that chamomile is really good for our bodies and it brings us a lot of benefits. I will not be able to cover them all but I will try to point the most important of them.

1. Treat anxiety, reduce stress

It is preferred as a cheap and natural replacement for the calming pills. It is told to be one of the best medicinal herbs to fight stress and promote relaxation.

2. Promotes good sleep, helps with insomnia

This tea is known as a “night-time” tea as it has some mild sedative effects. Having a cup before bedtime, will act as a gentle relaxant and help you fall asleep easily.

3. Helps to treat skin irritations(burns, acne, skin allergies, diaper rash, eczema and psoriasis, skin infections)

Chamomile tea has soothing effects for the skin irritations when applied directly on the skin or even if you enjoy it as a tea. You can even enjoy it in your bathtub while you are treating yourself with a nice relaxing bath. Chamomile tea is rich in antioxidants, hence it helps to fight the free radicals which are damaging the skin cells.

4. Reduces inflammation, relieves headaches and migraines

It is an excellent anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial drink and it is known as the plant which reduces pain, for centuries. Including a cup of chamomile tea in your daily routine, helps you fully enjoy its benefits.

5. Mouth care, fight canker sores and more

As this plant also helps fighting bacteria, this also refers to the bacteria from your mouth. This way, it helps reducing pain related to canker sores, gingivitis, and small wounds. Overall it keeps your teeth and gums healthy.

You can find other extra benefits below:

  • Boosts immune system
  • Relieves menstrual cramps
  • Soothes IBS symptoms
  • Brings balance to your bloodstream
  • Soothes stiff muscles
  • Treat nausea, upset stomach, abdominal pain, indigestion

Preparation:

Bring water to boil and prepare the teacup with one chamomile tea bag. You can also use loose-leaves for making this tea. Pour the boiling water in the cup and allow steeping, covered, between 3 to 8 minutes, depending on how strong you want the taste to be.

  • Tip:
As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, my favorite tip when preparing this tea is to add a teaspoon of honey in it. This totally changes the taste and it becomes delicious. Honey also contains serotonin and together with the tea, they will help you minimize the effects of stress and anxiety.

Precautions and side effects:

Be careful using chamomile if you have allergies like hay fever.

Chamomile can interact with various kinds of medication. Consult your doctor before drinking any kind of chamomile tea. Do not use chamomile tea as a replacement for getting medical attention.
